The "French"
In 1863, the king om Cambodia signed a treaty of protection with France. The French protectorate of Cambodia lasted until 1953, with an interruption by Japanese occupation from 1941 to 1945. It was not used as an exploitation colony, but more as just another place for the French to settle in.
