Cambodia

Explained

Occupation

The Japanese occupation of Cambodia (1941-1945) took place during the second world war, in which the country was divided by the Japanese empire and Vichy France. In contrast to other countries and areas captured by the Japanese, Cambodia mostly avoided the war crimes committed by them. After the French colonial government was overthrown, Cambodia became a pro-Japanese puppet state until the sudden surrender of Japan.
